Integrative Cancer Doula Support

The missing layer of breast cancer care.

A breast cancer diagnosis can become overwhelming fast — complex information to understand, decisions to make, providers to coordinate, complementary therapies to weigh, and daily life to keep running, all at once.

The healthcare system is built to treat the cancer. Women are left to coordinate everything around it. A Integrative Cancer Doula is the support professional who helps carry that load.

What an Integrative Cancer Doula is

Support through every part of the experience.

A Integrative Cancer Doula is a trained, non-clinical support professional who helps women through diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and survivorship — providing continuity, coordination, advocacy, and informed guidance.

Inspired by the role birth doulas play in pregnancy and childbirth, Integrative Cancer Doulas offer a steady, knowledgeable presence from diagnosis onward.

They don't diagnose, prescribe, or replace medical care. They help women organize information, prepare for decisions, coordinate support, and stay grounded through a complex experience.

In short: the support that connects medical treatment, complementary care, and daily life.

A Integrative Cancer Doula helps you implement and adapt your Peony Care Plan™ in real life—between appointments, across decisions, and through the emotional and practical realities of breast cancer.

Why this role exists

Breast cancer care is fragmented. You shouldn't have to be the one holding it all together.

Your oncologist manages treatment. Your surgeon focuses on surgery. Your family does what they can. But organizing information, preparing for decisions, coordinating support, and managing daily life often falls to you — at the moment you have the least capacity for it.

A Integrative Cancer Doula helps carry that, with support, coordination, advocacy, and guidance, so you can move through the experience with less overwhelm.

What an Integrative Cancer Doula does

How a doula supports you.

Build a personalized plan

Using the Peony Care Plan™ framework, your doula helps you organize information, coordinate care, clarify priorities, and shape a more intentional path through treatment, recovery, and survivorship — around your:

  • Diagnosis information
  • Treatment recommendations
  • Questions and concerns
  • Personal priorities and preferences
  • Support systems
  • Complementary care approaches
  • Recovery and survivorship goals

Prepare for important decisions

Breast cancer often means major decisions, quickly. Your doula helps you understand your options, prepare for appointments, organize questions, clarify priorities, and process information between visits. The goal isn't to tell you what to do — it's to help you decide with clarity.

Coordinate your care circle

Support often comes from many people and providers. Your doula connects the dots between your oncology, surgical, and radiation teams; nutrition, rehabilitation, and integrative practitioners; and your family, caregivers, and community — reducing fragmentation so everyone is working toward the same goals.

Manage daily life

Breast cancer affects far more than appointments. Your doula helps with scheduling and logistics, treatment preparation, recovery planning, work and family responsibilities, and practical support — turning overwhelm into a manageable plan.

Provide emotional support

Sometimes what matters most is someone who understands. Your doula offers a steady, informed presence through the hard moments and the milestones — so you feel seen, heard, supported, and less alone.

Keep you at the center

At the center of every Peony Care Plan™ is you. Your doula makes sure your goals, values, questions, and preferences stay part of the conversation through diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and survivorship.

What an Integrative Cancer Doula does not do

Supportive. Not clinical.

A Integrative Cancer Doula does not diagnose, prescribe, interpret medical tests, or replace your physicians. She works alongside your medical team — not in place of it.

That boundary is intentional. It's what keeps your support safe, coordinated, and appropriate.

Trained & certified

Trained to support women through breast cancer.

Every Integrative Cancer Doula completes a structured training program in the Peony Care Plan™ framework, patient advocacy, care coordination, communication, and evidence-informed integrative breast cancer support — including nutrition, recovery, lifestyle, and complementary therapies.

All doulas work within a defined non-clinical scope, in collaboration with medical providers and complementary practitioners.

The Integrative Cancer Doula Certificate™ exists to set a consistent standard of care, and to prepare doulas to support women with professionalism, compassion, and accountability.

Common questions

Questions women ask first.

What is a Integrative Cancer Doula?

+
A trained, non-clinical support professional who helps you through diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and survivorship — coordinating care, preparing you for decisions, advocating for you, and providing steady support. She works alongside your medical team, never in place of it.

How is an Integrative Cancer Doula different from a patient navigator?

+
Patient navigators usually work inside a hospital or insurer and focus on logistics within that system. A Integrative Cancer Doula is independent and whole-person — supporting your medical care, complementary approaches, daily life, and emotional wellbeing across every provider and stage.

What does an Integrative Cancer Doula not do?

+
She doesn't diagnose, prescribe, interpret tests, or replace your physicians. Her role is support, coordination, advocacy, and guidance — alongside your medical team.

How much does Integrative Cancer Doula support cost?

+
Doula support is private-pay, with fees set independently by each Integrative Cancer Doula. As support launches in your area, Peony also offers a complimentary introductory consultation.

Is Integrative Cancer Doula support covered by insurance?

+
Not at this time. Because this is a new, non-clinical profession, doula support is private-pay and not billed to insurance.

How do I get started?
