Foreword

One diagnosis.
A thousand decisions.

A breast cancer diagnosis can quickly become overwhelming.

You're asked to understand complex information, make treatment decisions, manage side effects, and step into an unfamiliar world — all while continuing to live your life.

The healthcare system is built to treat the cancer. But supporting your health during and after breast cancer takes more than treatment alone.

The Breast Cancer Book helps women understand the decisions, questions, and evidence-informed options that shape their Peony Care Plan™.

The Breast Cancer Book was written to help you with both.

From the author

The guide I needed when I heard the words “you have breast cancer.”

When I was diagnosed, I quickly discovered that information wasn't the problem. There was information everywhere.

The challenge was making sense of it.

  • Knowing what mattered.
  • Knowing which questions to ask.
  • Finding guidance I could trust.
  • Coordinating care.
  • Facing fear.
  • Making a plan.

As a clinically trained midwife and health publisher, I'd spent decades helping people make complex health decisions. Even so, I couldn't find a single resource that brought everything together.

So I began creating it.

The Breast Cancer Book was written during chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and endocrine therapy — while living the experience in real time.

Three perspectives

Three essential perspectives, brought together.

I.

Medical expertise

Insights from oncologists, physicians, and integrative practitioners translate complex medical information into guidance you can understand.

II.

Survivor wisdom

Learn from women who've walked this path and know the realities that don't always make it into a medical appointment — from the first days after diagnosis through recovery and life beyond treatment.

III.

Your own voice

The book helps you become an active participant in your care — not by telling you what to do, but by equipping you to ask better questions, understand your options, and make decisions that reflect your values and priorities.

A thoughtful guide

What you'll find inside.

01

Understand your diagnosis

Make sense of pathology reports, biomarkers, staging, and treatment recommendations, so you can ask better questions and make more informed decisions.

02

Ask the right questions about treatment

Every woman's treatment is different. Understand your options across chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, endocrine therapy, and supportive care — and the questions to ask, so you can shape the path that's right for you.

03

Support your whole health

Evidence-informed approaches to nutrition, sleep, movement, nervous system regulation, emotional wellbeing, and lifestyle medicine through treatment and recovery.

04

Recover and protect your long-term health

Practical strategies for rebuilding strength, easing fear of recurrence, supporting metabolic health, building resilience, and creating a foundation for long-term wellness.

05

Integrate conventional and complementary care

How acupuncture, nutrition, mind-body practices, manual therapies, metabolic support, and other integrative approaches can work alongside medical treatment to support quality of life, recovery, and outcomes.

06

Create your Peony Care Plan™

Organize your care, clarify your priorities, coordinate resources, communicate with your medical team, and build a roadmap that reflects your goals, values, and needs.

Reducing fragmentation

Learn to coordinate medical care, supportive therapies, and daily life through a structured care plan that keeps you at the center.

Recovery & survivorship

Breast cancer doesn't end
when treatment ends.

For many women, some of the biggest questions begin after active treatment is over.

  • How do I regain my strength?
  • How do I manage fear of recurrence?
  • What does recovery actually look like?
  • How do I move forward without pretending this never happened?

The Breast Cancer Book includes guidance not only for diagnosis and treatment, but for recovery, survivorship, recurrence prevention, and rebuilding life after cancer.

Because support shouldn't end when treatment does.

For whom

Who this book is for.

Women newly diagnosed or in treatment

For the moment when everything feels uncertain and you don't know where to begin — or when decisions, appointments, side effects, and questions start to pile up.

Women in recovery and survivorship

For when active treatment ends, but healing, rebuilding, fear of recurrence, long-term health, and questions about what comes next continue.

Family members and caregivers

For partners, adult children, parents, friends, and loved ones who want to offer informed, steady, meaningful support.

Healthcare and wellness professionals

For practitioners who want a deeper understanding of living through breast cancer and a more coordinated framework for supporting women.

The difference

Why this book is different.

Most resources focus on either medical treatment or complementary care.

The Breast Cancer Book shows how conventional treatment, nutrition, movement, recovery, emotional wellbeing, and complementary therapies can work together to support healing, quality of life, and long-term health.

Grounded in evidence, informed by lived experience, and centered on the woman herself, it gives you a practical framework — and the confidence to use your own voice.

Not just the disease.

The whole woman.
